The number of sessions needed in Gottman therapy varies based on the unique circumstances and dynamics of each couple. While some couples may experience positive changes after a few sessions, others may benefit from a more extended treatment plan. On average, Gottman therapy often involves around 12 to 20 sessions, but this can be adjusted based on the severity of issues and the couple's responsiveness to the therapeutic process. The approach is designed to be flexible, allowing therapists to tailor the duration of treatment to the specific needs and progress of the individuals involved. The focus is on achieving lasting improvements in the relationship, and the therapist collaborates with the couple to determine the most effective and suitable duration for their journey towards a healthier connection.

Gottman sessions typically follow a structured and collaborative format. In these sessions, couples work with a therapist trained in the Gottman Method to explore and understand the dynamics of their relationship. The therapist helps identify specific areas of concern, using assessments and observations. Sessions often involve teaching practical skills for effective communication, conflict resolution, and emotional connection. Couples engage in open discussions and exercises tailored to their needs. The therapist may also provide feedback and guidance based on Gottman's extensive research on relationship dynamics.
